Living a Wholesome Full Life ( with Yamantaka Wongkur)

Weekend or weeklong Retreat

with Lama Linda (Linda Hochstetler)

November 8 - 15, 2024

Dharma Centre of Canada

How can we embrace a full, wholesome life that is wholly aligned with our values? In this retreat, we will draw on teachings from three sources to explore this question:

  • Teachings on Conscious Living offered by Doug Qapel Duncan and Catherine Pawasarat Sensei, teachers in the Namgayl lineage;

  • The book A Whole Life’s Work by Lewis Richmond; and

  • The 6 Buddhist Paramis (or “perfections”) of Generosity, Ethics, Patience, Energy, Concentration, and Wisdom.

From Friday through Saturday evening, we will use teachings on Conscious Living and the Paramis to explore how we spend our lives in the 8 different kinds of conscious work proposed by Richmond, and identify ways we can bring our lives into alignment with our values. On Sunday, A Wongkur for Yamantaka, the archetype of the supreme “tool-man” (a doer with 9 heads and 34 arms), will be offered.

Participants staying for the week-long retreat will have the unique opportunity to use the retreat teachings and the energy of Yamanaka to deeply explore their work and create a life path inspired by their values

Note: You are encouraged to attend the full week, but individuals will be allowed to attend for the weekend only (November 8-10).

Class Schedule: 3-4 group classes per day.
Friday - 7:30pm
Saturday-Sunday - 7am, 10am, 4pm, 7:30pm

What is Dana? Teachers give the teachings of awakening (Dharma) freely so that anyone, no matter their financial means can attend classes. Each time one receives teachings, it is an opportunity to consciously practice generosity. Giving money and other means of support expresses gratitude and support to the teacher and helps to ensure that these teachings continue. Each person receiving Dharma teachings determines the kind and amount of Dāna according to one’s heart and one’s financial means. When deciding how much to offer, one should think about what these teachings mean to you and try to give accordingly. It is recommended that students make an offering of dāna at the beginning of a class or retreat to establish the intention to make the most of this opportunity for one’s own progression and for the benefit of all others.
