Course Descriptions
Weaving the Elements
March 21st - April 10th
with Cecilie Kwiat,
Terry Hagan and Mala Sikka

Back by popular demand, and with more time to probe deeper, this course will give us a chance to extend our contact with the Elements that shape everything we do.

Reality is "the thing you think about", according to physicist David Bohm. So what prompts our thoughts and how do we create realities? How do we perceive and how is this influenced by the elemental flow of the body? In Buddhism perception is sometimes compared to a dream, an illusion, and a magic show. How does the play of the elements weave our dreams and our lives?

These questions will form the basis of exploration during this retreat. The course will use teachings from Hinayana, Mahayana, and Vajrayana traditions as well as movements based on Elemental explorations to help recognize the subtle interplay of the Elements.

All are welcome. Please note that you can attend this retreat for shorter periods of time as your schedule permits. If so, you must start at the beginning of the retreat and leave the retreat early. For example, you may attend for the first weekend, or the first week or the first two weeks. Also, "early-bird" discounts apply if you are one the first five people to register at least 4 weeks in advance of the retreat start date.

The Seven Points of Mind Training of Atisha
April 18th - 20th
with Venerable Sonam Rinpoche

The Seven Points of Mind Training are at the heart of the Sutra and Tantra teachings in the Mahayana Buddhist tradition. The Indian sage Atisha composed the text which was later introduced into Tibet where it spread widely and became the essential teaching practiced by all lamas. This training is essential for any tantric practice since it ensures the removal of obstacles along the path.

The seven Points include:
  • the Preliminaries
  • Bodhicitta
  • Transformation of Unfavourable Circumstances into the Path of the Buddha
  • the Condensed Practice in Five Points
  • the Measurement of Mind Training
  • the Commitment of Mind Training
  • the Precepts of Mind Training

The substance of mind training is to be happy to practice virtuous actions, to be happy when favourable conditions arise for the practice of virtue, to rejoice in the accomplishments of others and to feel sadness at lost opportunities by others.

    Member's Price: $150 / Non-member's Price: $180
Minimum donation to the Lama: $100 / Donation to the translator: $25

  • Life Moves / Movement Dialogues
    April 25th - 29th
with Mala Sikka and Terry Hagan

The art of communication demands much more than an ability to use words. It rests on the subtle movements of one’s whole body - a level of interaction which is often cloaked by habitual patterns. Unfortunately many of us remain unaware of how these unconscious interchanges can foster a sense of misunderstanding in both the speaker and the listener.

By exploring communication through movement meditation, we will discover greater freedom in dialogue with each other and with the world around us. These explorations will allow us to more joyfully see and be seen in our communing.  All are welcome.

    Full Course Member's Price: $300 / Non-member's Price: $360
    Week-end only Member's Price: $150 / Non-member's Price: $180

Dana (donation) for Course Leaders: It is important to note that most Dharma centre teachers do not receive fees for their teaching but are dependent on the generosity of student donations. We recommend that $20 - $30 per day is a reasonable contribution in support of Course Leaders. Dana refers to “a gift freely and joyfully given”, and therefore the giving itself and the actual amount given is to be determined by students themselves.
