What's New ?
Vajrasattva Accumulation: and the Total is...

Thank you to all who responded to the invitation this past March to participate in the accumulation of Vajrasattva mantras. We began on March 14 with a weekend of group practice at the Dharma Centre that was attended by nine people. On the same weekend seven people from Crystal Staff in Ottawa also gathered together to do Vajrasattva practice. We were  happy to learn that many of you have sustained this practice over that past two months. Based on the emails that we have received we would like to report that the tally for our collective effort is:
184,000 Vajrasattva mantras (long).

A very meritorious effort to be sure!

Fundraising Drive
As of March 16, the fundraising drive, launched to ensure enough money is available to meet minimum requirements on property, has gathered:
  • almost $500 in additional monthly EFT or post-dated cheques, (bringing us to $1,005 per month, still well below our goal of $2500 per month).
  • $700 in new 2008 membership fees
  • $5000 in general donations, with a single $2500 donation.

Ontario-based members, friends, and long-time students of Namgyal Rinpoche were phoned in February/March to encourage giving. Along with these phone calls we received much advice and many ideas about options for the DCC.s future. We thank everyone for their gracious input.

A fundraising drive, "Campaign 108" is being developed. This campaign will focus on encouraging members outside Ontario to continue to contribute.

  • Announcement: Dharma Centre Annual General Meeting, 2008
Sunday June 29th, Dharma Centre, Kinmount
Our Board of seven Directors will be losing two members at the end of this term, and there are currently two vacancies. The DCC needs competent, involved, and energetic people to make a commitment of at least two years and up to five years as members of the Board. The DCC operates best with seven Directors, so four positions need to be filled at the AGM. We need everyone.s help to navigate this journey. Without your enduring committment of time, effort, and finances we cannot facilitate the changes that are essential for the Dharma Centre to continue.

Call or email us today to find out more about how you can become involved.

    Sincerely,
The 2007-2008 DC Board of Directors.

    The Practitioner Support Fund

The Practitioner Support Fund, dependent upon the generous donations of the membership and other sources, will be available to students in financial need. Applications to the Practitioner Support Fund will be accepted by the Review Committee throughout the year and reviewed on a case-by-case basis. The Review Committee will make every effort to review applications on a monthly basis to insure a timely response for each application received.

    Who is eligible
Eligibility for the Fund will be determined by the by the student’s financial and personal need. Applicants will be asked to submit a written letter to the Review Committee that outlines briefly their circumstance and demonstrates their interest in the particular course for which they are applying. The Fund is intended to assist those students who are unable to participate in courses and retreat work as a result of financial hardship. Although priority will be given to Dharma Centre members, all applications will be considered and reviewed by the Review Committee with recommendations to the Board of Directors for final approval.

    What will the Fund cover:
The Practitioner Fund will cover all course fees and lodging costs at the Dharma Centre. It will not cover food or Dana for the teacher. This amounts to a total subsidy of up to $60.00 per day (non-members) or $50.00 per day for members. Applicants will be encouraged to pay-what-they-can towards lodging and course fees to increase the fund’s ability to support as many applicants as possible.

    How to apply:
Submit a written letter of application to the Dharma Centre Administration office where it will be forwarded to the Review Committee. The letter should briefly detail your personal and financial circumstance and tell us about your interest in the specific course that you are applying for. Your letter should include your mailing address, e-mail address and all other relevant contact information. The Dharma Centre of Canada Board of Directors is ultimately responsible for this allocation of funds. Please state how much you are able to contribute yourself. We will review, award, and advise in a timely manner.

The Practitioner Support Fund is made possible by the generous donations of Dharma Centre members and other sources. We welcome your application and hope that we may be of assistance in meeting your request. In the event that we are unable to support your application we encourage you to consider the following options:
  • Ask friends
  • Ask your family
  • Ask your Dharma group

  • Server-Meditators Needed

Please consider spending time (short or long-term) at the Dharma Centre as a Server-Meditator. There are several openings starting immediately. Our Resident Teachers, Terry and Mala, are on property and available to give support and guidance to anyone coming up as a Server-Meditator.

Our Server-Meditator program is offered to those wishing to explore the integration of their Dharma practice into the activities of daily life while living and working in a meditation/study environment. Server- Meditators are asked to give four hours daily of service work, usually in the kitchen or on the grounds, and are expected to combine that work with personal meditation practice or participation in an existing retreat or course.

We are reminded daily here that Server-Meditators are an indispensable component for the smooth running of the Dharma Centre. These volunteers agree to work a minimum of four hours per day in exchange for accommodation and the waiving of course fees. (Server-Meditators agree to pay a modest daily amount ($15/day) for meals and offer dana for teachers when they attend courses).

Participating in the running of the Dharma Centre, the benefit for Server-Meditators is twofold: s/he has an opportunity to experience both meditation and daily work life in a supportive environment, and our staff receive extra help which translates into better support for all courses and meditators on property.

We'll try our best to match your skills and interest with work that needs to be done at the Centre.
